Dr. Selam Bisrat

Dr. Selam Bisrat is a specialist in pediatrics and child health with many years of experience in the Ethiopian health sector. She has worked in many of the government owned hospitals in Addis Ababa and has an interest in community health, and prevention education of the public. She has been involved in developing training programs for all the hospitals she has worked at focusing on professional development of healthcare workers and hospital staff. Dr. Selam has extensive experience in training medical students during her stay in Tikur Anbessa specialized hospital. Dr. Selam is a passionate clinician and dedicated public health expert driven to improve and transform the healthcare sector in Ethiopian and make measurable impact in the lives of all Ethiopians.  

​As part of her Master's of Public Health program, Dr. Selam is focused on examining the broad and complex impact of nutrition on health. She is currently examining the attributable risk due to malnutrition on the general health of children in her practice.


Dr. Selam completed her Pediatrics and Child Health Speciality and residency at the Tikur Anbesa specialized hospital at the Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences. She is currently completing her MPH in Nutrition.

A specialist in a department with inpatient, outpatient and ICU services. Focusing on the physical, emotional, and social health of children—from newborns and infants to children and young adults. From preventive health care to the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, providing crosscutting specialized services working with nationally recognized experts in children’s health.


Trained and served as a residents involved in the direct care of pediatric patients, both outpatient and inpatient on the children’s hospital’s general floor and intensive care unit; and from primary to tertiary care; Completed a clinical training complemented by a curriculum designed to develop the skills a pediatrician requires, as a patient advocate, educator and researcher.



As a general practitioner's my duties include examining patients, diagnosing common illnesses, and administering or prescribing appropriate treatment. Also addressed patients' health-related queries. Adapt in communicating with patients the gravity of diagnoses while reassuring voice when they are in distress. Also responsible for inspecting and updating patients' charts; Diagnosing common ailments such as colds, flu, and diabetes; Administering medication topically, orally, and via intravenous or intramuscular injections; Prescribing apt medications and lifestyle alterations; Collecting fluid and tissue samples and sending these to laboratories for further testing; And referring patients to specialists for further testing and treatment, if needed.
