Mr. Samuel Haddis

Samuel Haddis worked as Associate Consultant at the McKinsey & Company in the Addis Ababa. He has 13 years experience in engineering, including design, construction and project management. He has earned his B.Sc. Degree in Civil Engineering from Bahir Dar University in 2008.

​

Experience working closely with the State Owned, Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) as a transport adviser and a Highway Engineer in Djibouti on a Turnkey project on the Addis Ababa – Djibouti Corridor.

​

While at McKinsey & Company, Sammy’s professional focus was public and social sector transformation focusing on preliminary categorization of state owned enterprises based on asset, potential GDP contribution and performance gap within various sectors including transport, logistics, communications, manufacturing and finance with combined asset of USD 100bn. He also designed organizational structurer for a new SOE that oversees more than 20 state owned- enterprises. Developed business strategies to help a trade agency boost export in selected value chains by analyzing gaps across the value chain. Additionally, he helped a state-owned rail way company develop strategies to help increase its revenue and improve its operation.

Samuel has practiced engineering in infrastructure, focused mainly in road and transport: designing highways, undertook design optimization of turnkey projects through sensitivity analysis and alternative design approaches, and estimation of project costs, performing cost analysis, reviewing work schedules and oversaw design and construction operations.

​

Previously, he had assumed senior positions in large internationally financed projects including in South Sudan, where he worked as a team leader on the 240km Kapoeta – Boma – Raad design project, and as a Highway Engineer in Esawatini, where he designed a state of the art Interchange.  Sammy has also experience working on cross-border highways including his participation on parts of the Addis Ababa – Mombassa and Addis Ababa – Juba Road Corridors as a highway engineer.

In addition to several professional certificates from the McKinsey Alpine University Austria, Sammy holds a B.SC. in Civil Engineering from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia.

HIGHWAY ENGINEER

Ansif Construction (JV with Hebei Construction Group-China)

Establishing quality control mechanisms to standardize outputs, conduct problem-solving sessions and evaluate progress and set targets. Served as the focal person and represented the company in all GoE, and other stakeholders. Designed, reviewed, and ensured the quality of all designs submitted by other sub-contractors.

Also worked with Dabek Engineering Consulting firm and as a freelance consultant evaluating tender documents, contracts and helping develop evaluation model to select bid participants.

ASSOCIATE CONSULTANT

Developed business strategies and helped trade agency boost export across value chain. Designed organization structure for a holding agency that oversaw 20+ State Owned Enterprises. Worked in the logistic sector for a railroad agency in both process and revenue optimization. Also worked on quality improvement of export materials and improving operational efficiency of exporting agencies.

DESIGN DEPARTMENT HEAD/TEAM LEADER

Oversaw overall designs for the company, resource allocation, progress reporting, and capacity building. Led team of engineers in preliminary collection and analysis of data for a highway project in a conflict ridden regions. During this time also worked as a design department head of all projects.
